Toronto FC: Marky Delgado gets much deserved contract extension
Ahead of the MLS tournament, Toronto FC has locked up Marky Delgado to a contract extension that seems like a no brainer.
Toronto FC knew it was imperative to have Marky Delgado signed to a contract extension, it just took some time to make it official.
The Canadian Press confirmed that a deal which was agreed upon back in April is now official, although we don’t have details on the length or dollar amount of the contract. The important thing is that Delgado can continue to be an integral part of the roster.

General manager Ali Curtis all but made that apparent in the announcement of the deal.
"“Mark has been such a big part of TFC’s success,” Curtis said in a statement. “We are all very happy that he will be remaining with the club as he is an important part of our group.“He has played in some of our club’s biggest matches over the years and gained a tremendous amount of experience. He’s young, takes great care of himself, and works incredibly hard, which were critical factors in ensuring he remained with TFC for the long-term.”"
Although he is only 25 years old, Delgado has been a part of some big games for TFC with 170 appearances across all competitions, scoring 14 goals and adding 19 assists. He has been able to provide some versatility in midfield considering his quick transition passes.
This is a player who was impressive in his time at an early age through his development with Chivas USA and was seen as a sneaky good pick in the 2014 dispersal draft. Not only does this ensure that TFC has options when they travel to Orlando, but it also prepares them for a time where Delgado will have to take on a larger role.
It will be interesting to see how the rest of TFC’s season plays out with Pablo Piatti, Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore all healthy.
