The Buffalo Bills needed to make big changes ahead of the 2019 NFL season, and their activity in free agency certainly shows that.

With players officially allowed to negotiate with teams before deals become official on Wednesday, the Buffalo Bills have already secured agreements with four players and don’t look like stopping.

On Monday, the Bills landed depth cornerback Kevin Johnson, most recently with the Houston Texans, before grabbing veteran running back Frank Gore to bolster their rushing options.

Later in the day, the team addressed the offence once more, with the huge reported signing of center Mitch Morse.

More from Buffalo Bills

Morse steps in as an immediate starter for the Bills, who largely rotated Russell Bodine and Ryan Groy after the retirement of Eric Wood.

The 6-foot-6, 305lbs Austin, Texas native has reportedly agreed to a four-year deal that will see him hold an AAV of $11 million – making him the highest paid center in the entire league.

With young quarterback Josh Allen needing to have better protection in 2019, the addition of Morse is a sensible one by general manager Brandon Beane.

The Bills weren’t done, however, adding tight end Tyler Kroft after the team parted ways with Charles Clay after a disappointing 2018 season.

Kroft, most recently with the Cincinnati Bengals, joins the Bills after having an up-and-down career to date, with 2017 being his best after a 404 yards, seven touchdowns showing in 16 regular season games.

The 26-year-old isn’t likely to be the only tight end to be added by the team, whether by free agency or otherwise, with the 2015 third round pick not showing enough to warrant a starting role with the team.

The Bills are in dire need of new receivers to compliment the progress of Zay Jones and Robert Foster, with reports suggesting that Cole Beasley is set to leave the Dallas Cowboys in favour of a new four-year deal in Upstate New York.

Beasley has been a solid receiver so far in his career, good for between three to five touchdowns a season as a third option for teams – giving the Allen some extra guys to work with moving forward. He also provides Allen with a safety blanket option on third down like he did with Dak Prescott in Dallas.

While the team’s offensive additions will be the main topic of conversation for fans of the Buffalo Bills, there is one defensive player that could certainly get people talking if he opts to join the team.

Veteran edge rusher Ziggy Ansah is reportedly taking a visit with the Buffalo Bills this week.

Ansah is a player that has the potential to earn over ten sacks a season when he is healthy – with the former fifth overall pick by the Detroit Lions currently recovering from a shoulder injury that kept him out for 11 games in 2018.

Having a healthy Ansah battling along the trenches would certainly give the Bills a new threat to help compliment their strong linebacker corps and developing secondary.

But the question truly is whether or not he can stay healthy enough to get through a full 16-game season.

The Buffalo Bills have had an aggressive start to the 2019 free agency period, and things could get very interesting as more names begin to emerge as potential signings.
