David, Austin and Jake look at the Toronto Raptors loss to the Detroit Pistons in Dwane Casey’s return and whether the Toronto Maple Leafs last should consider trading for a defenceman.

It was a big homecoming for Dwane Casey coaching against the Toronto Raptors with a fourth-quarter collapse handing Toronto their second straight loss. The Toronto Maple Leafs got a big win over the Los Angeles Kings but should they be looking for an upgrade on the blueline down the road.

David, Austin and Jake discuss what went wrong for the Raptors and whether the past couple of games have exploited something the team needs to work on. While it’s not something to be overly concerned about, they should try to sort it out before the Golden State Warriors come to town at the end of the month.

The Leafs on the other hand have won three of their past four games but the team learned a valuable lesson against the Boston Bruins or more particularly the Patrice Bergeron line.

David starts the podcast by bringing up Kyle Lowry’s comments after the loss to the Pistons and why they are important despite the team off to a 12-3 start to the season. David, Austin and Jake discuss their status in the Eastern Conference and how it has been somewhat surprising especially with the other teams that have charged ahead.

They also discuss the great job Masai Ujiri and the Raptors have been able to find core players in the later round of the draft like Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby and how important they will be down the road.

More from Tip of the Tower

Before they move on the Leafs, David and Austin give Jake an update on the Fantasy Hockey League including David’s auto draft blunder.

There was a Damien Cox tweet which brought out some strong comments for Leafs fans because of the trade proprosal he suggests in regards to Auston Matthews which the guys have no desire to entertain.

Not that but there have been some hypothetical trade offers for William Nylander which people do not agree with but David argues that what fans want for Nylander has been unrealistic.

They also wonder when Matthews can return because it seems like his recovery is going well and if they should look into trading for Brandon Montour and not have to give up Nylander to get a deal done.

Next. Why the Leafs should remain firm with Nylander. dark
