The moment we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived – the Toronto Blue Jays‘ home opener. The question is, will they be able to get their home schedule off to a winning start, when they take the field against the Milwaukee Brewers?

To date, the Blue Jays have an all-time record of 26-14 in home openers. However, they will be looking to reverse a trend, which has seen them lose their previous five home openers at the Skydome.

Interestingly, the Jays have twice previously started their home schedule against the Brewers. They won 11-2 in 1980 and lost 15-4 two years later.

More from Tip of the Tower

J.A. Happ will take the mound for the home side, having pitched a decent game in his last outing, against the Baltimore Orioles. Yes, he was saddled with the loss, but he allowed just five hits and three runs in seven innings, while also recording nine strikeouts.

The Brewers will counter with Wily Peralta, who won his first start of the season, against the Colorado Rockies. The Blue Jays’ lineup will aim to do better than the Rockies, who managed just three hits and no runs in five innings against Peralta.

It would be an understatement to say the season has not exactly gone to plan so far for the Blue Jays, evidenced by matching the worst start in franchise history through six games. However, there’s nothing like the first home game of the season to bring renewed energy and anticipation.
