The Toronto Blue Jays should once again contend for the postseason, but we share four reasons why they will fall short in their quest to win the AL East.

After 21 years in the wilderness, the last two seasons have been good to the Toronto Blue Jays and their fans. While not returning to World Series glory, two consecutive trips to the postseason have helped reinvigorate the franchise.

Further, with the Blue Jays advancing to the AL Championship Series in 2015 and 2016, hopes are high that they can take the next step this year. In that respect, the bookies also like their chances heading into the 2017 campaign.

As per Odds Shark, they currently have the Blue Jays as joint-eighth favorites to go all the way, (along with the New York Mets). They also rank as fourth-favorites to at least advance from the ALCS.

Unsurprisingly, the Chicago Cubs are early favorites – par the course for most defending champions. In terms of making it to the World Series, Odds Shark see the Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox and Washington Nationals as the biggest obstacles for the Blue Jays.

Regardless of how much stock you put in the odds makers, the Blue Jays should contend for the postseason once again. However, if they do qualify, they will have to navigate their way through the nerve-racking, do-or-die affair known as the Wild Card game, as we share four reasons why they won’t win the AL East.
