The Toronto Argonauts will be opening their season on the road against the Calgary Stampeders. Here’s what you need to know ahead of kickoff.

We are now hours away from the Toronto Argonauts getting back on the field for their first CFL game in over 20 months and there’s a lot to catch up on.

The Argos have finished training camp and the depth chart for their Week 1 matchup against the Calgary Stampeders has been set. Now, it’s time to see how all the pieces come together after a busier than usual off-season (considering there were actually two).

More from Tip of the Tower

Drawing Calgary right off the start is not an easy task but the right type of challenge for this group to try and establish themselves. The league’s new sports betting partner, BetRegal has Toronto as an underdog going into this game with Calgary a five-point favourite.

The Argos lost both games against the Stampeders in 2019 scoring a combined 32 points. In more ways than one, Toronto’s front office has looked at Calgary as the model of consistency to strive for.

The Argos were one of the busiest teams in free agency making sure to prioritize their national depth. It will take some time for fans to get used to the new faces on the team considering there are only six players returning from their 2019 roster.

With that being said, let’s take a look at some players to watch ahead of kickoff.

Toronto Argonauts: Players to watch, injuries

Players to watch on offence: Eric Rogers, Juwan Brescacin, Ricky Collins Jr.

This Argos offence has no shortage of weapons and if they can establish a rhythm early, this group has the potential to be explosive. It will be interesting to see who gets most of the targets early on and who can benefit from single coverage.

Most of the spotlight will be on the former Stamps receivers; Rogers, Brescacin and DaVaris Daniels considering they are expected to lead the way.

Player to watch on defence:  Shane Ray, Henoc Muamba, Cameron Judge, Shaq Richardson

We will have more on the defence on the third page.

One-game injured list: Antonio Pipkin (QB), Arjen Colquhoun (DB), Terry Poole (OL), Dewayne Hendrix (DL)

Six game injured list: Cordarro Law (DL), Bear Woods (LB), Isiah Cage (OL), Drake Nevis (DL)
