Josh Allen has agreed to a six-year contract extension with the Buffalo Bills worth $258 million which is a hefty commitment but one worth making.

The Buffalo Bills were convinced that they found their quarterback of the future in Josh Allen and they have now put their money where their belief is.

Allen will make up to $258 million, with $150 million on his new contract extension with Buffalo ensuring that the important business is being handled before the start of the season. General manager Brandon Beane made it clear that he wanted this to be sorted out before the season started, essentially putting a deadline for himself and Allen to work something out.

Really there shouldn’t have been any doubt as to whether the Bills could get a deal done with Allen. It also shows a commitment from Buffalo but from Allen who wants to progress forward in his development.

"“I had numerous talks with [offensive coordinator Brian] Daboll, [coach Sean] McDermott and Beane. I made a vow to them … that I’d be a better quarterback and do things the right way,” Allen said to ESPN. “This isn’t just me doing it, though — it’s been a small army between Daboll and [quarterbacks coach Ken] Dorsey and the front office bringing in the guys that they’ve brought in, and in the offseason, working with [offseason QB coach] Jordan Palmer. … It’s been a long process.“I’ve got a long way to go. In no way am I saying that I’ve arrived or I’m there.”"

Getting the deal done now also provides clarity for the Bills salary situation going forward which will allow them to focus on building around Allen. It’s also quite interesting to see Buffalo give Allen the most guaranteed money in NFL history.

Josh Allen now has to live up to Buffalo Bills’ commitment with playoff success

Allen took significant strides forward as he was one win away from the Super Bowl.

What was on the other side was Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs who will be the team on everyone’s radar heading into the season as the top contender in the AFC. There aren’t many teams better than Buffalo and Kansas City in the conference and the time is now for the Bills to take the next step in their desire to win a Super Bowl.

There will be a lot of pressure on Allen to deliver for the Bills and this contract will add to that. So far, the pressure of playing in Buffalo hasn’t been an issue for Allen and it has led to the team getting playing more primetime games.

With the team’s schedule presenting challenges at different points in the season, the ups and downs from Allen will be critiqued much harder and it will be interesting to see how he handles it.
