Buffalo Sabres trade candidate No. 3: Colin Miller

Signed one more year at $3.875 million, Colin Miller would be an attractive trade option for a lot of teams.

At the time they acquired Miller from the Vegas Golden Knights for a second-round pick in the 2021 draft and a 2022 fifth-round selection, this looked like a nice piece of business. Vegas was dealing with a salary cap crunch and Buffalo needed some dependable options on the backend.

Unfortunately, Miller hasn’t been able to find a natural fit with the Sabres and could very well be an expansion draft target. However, it might be in the team’s best interest to see if they can recoup and assets in return for Miller.

The 28-year-old was called on to represent Canada at the world hockey championships but an injury took him out of the tournament. This could have provided teams more of a chance to see what Miller could do in a different situation.

After playing in a limited role with the Boston Bruins, Miller saw his playing team increase dramatically averaging 19 minutes a night. He saw a dip in production as he wasn’t used as much offensively playing behind Dahlin and Ristolainen so any team that acquires him should be looking to give him more of a chance to be a factor offensively.

It will be interesting to how the Sabres navigate the expansion draft and how much the first overall pick influences their decisions going forward. They have a group of players that clearly don’t want to be a part of a slow rebuild and some undesirable contracts which means this won’t be a quick turnaround by any means.
