Going into Week 8 against the New England Patriots, the Buffalo Bills need to keep a business-like approach in a crucial matchup.

If it wasn’t clear before, the 2020 season has almost confirmed what many predicted this past offseason, the AFC East is the Buffalo Bills division to lose.

However, no matter where the Bills are and how tough this season has been for the New England Patriots, there is no reason for Buffalo to take them lightly. Considering the Bills couldn’t score a touchdown in Week 7 against arguably the worst NFL team in recent memory, they need to be prepared for anything.

The players know this and have made this known considering Buffalo has struggled to beat the Patriots especially when Tom Brady was leading the team. As Yahoo! Sports points out, Bill Belichick is 35-5 against the Bills in the 20 years as the Patriots head coach, that’s not something you overestimate.

However, there is something to be said about the turnaround these Bills have gone through under Sean McDermott. While they should be mindful of the threat that the Patriots still are, they can’t show them too much respect in that they need to make a statement rather than just try to survive.

New England is struggling offensively which has exposed some of their deficiencies on defense. That being said, the Bills players aren’t making themselves the defacto kings of the AFC East.

"“I feel you’ve got to take that title away before we can make that statement,” Jerry Hughes told reporters.“So I’m going to hold my tongue because I know I don’t like to put anything out there in the universe and then have to come back and eat crow,” he added. “I will say that we’re going to be ready for this game.”"

Buffalo isn’t exactly firing on all cylinders at the moment and have lost to contending teams in the Kansas City Chiefs and Tennessee Titans. They need a victory that brings their stock back up especially on offense.

If there is one thing the Patriots will challenge the Bills, it’s their ability to adapt especially when they try to attack Buffalo’s weakness which is their struggles to contain the opposition’s running game.

In the end, this game should say a lot about the path both teams are going and if you are the Bills, you don’t want to be trending down with a prime opportunity to win a division title.
