Buffalo Bills defense has another performance to forget in Week 6
It was not Patrick Mahomes giving the Buffalo Bills defense problems in their Week 6 loss as Clyde Edwards-Helaire was dominant from start to finish.
Going into this rare Monday afternoon game, it was supposed to be the Josh Allen vs. Patrick Mahomes showdown but what the Buffalo Bills got was another dose of reality.
After a dream start to the season, the Bills defense has come under scrutiny with some questionable performances including a disappointing loss to the Tennessee Titans. In Week 6 against the Chiefs, Buffallo’s defense was exposed again.

In a week where Le’Veon Bell’s addition was a big talking point, Clyde Edwards-Helaire made sure to leave a strong reminder of where he stands on the team’s depth chart. The rookie had 161 rushing yards as Kansas City ran the ball 46 times in this game.
It’s pretty damning for the Bills to not find a way to adjust to what the Chiefs were doing in this game. They kept Buffalo off the field which is usually not a strategy Kansas City employs as Mahomes has never been afraid to go toe-to-toe with another quarterback.
In this one, the Chiefs decided that keeping Allen off the field was a key to success as they converted nine of 14 third downs. It shouldn’t come as a surprise then to see Kansas City dominate the time of possession 37:45 to 22:15.
To be fair, the Bills offense struggled mightily as Allen was 14 for 27 with 122 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Considering how much he was throwing in other games, the Bills weren’t getting enough out of Allen and the run game was not a factor even with the quarterback rushing for 42 yards.
Fortunately for Buffalo, the only threat right now to overtake them in the division are the Miami Dolphins who are 3-3 and the New England Patriots who are 2-3. Fortunately, they have the New York Jets in Week 7 before they host the New England Patriots.
In that time, the Bills will need their defense to get back to form otherwise all this talk about them being contenders will start to disappear.
