With another breakout performance from Richie Laryea against the Columbus Crew, Toronto FC continues to show their potential in MLS.

It appears the performance from the Orlando bubble was just the beginning for Richie Laryea as the Toronto FC right back has continued his stellar play.

The Toronto native is coming off a phenomenal performance against the Columbus Crew scoring a goal and adding two assists earning him MLS Player of the Week honours. It continues to be an extravagant campaign for the youngster who was signed by TFC in 2019 after getting let go by Orlando.

Initially, Laryea was brought in to play in the midfield but changed position to fullback and it still showing his impact each and every game. This has not been a surprise to the team.

"“I see it all the time in practice,” said coach Greg Vanney to reporters. “Our wingers get so frustrated and discombobulated trying to deal with him in training and he’s just spinning around and dancing and doing different things and guys can’t get close to him.”"

It’s impressive how TFC has been able to secure an emerging star and made sure his future was secured after signing him to an extension in June. The 25-years-old is someone Canadian soccer fans should be keeping an eye on.

He might not be on the same level as Alphonso Davies who is 19 and a well-regarded star in Bundesliga but Laryea is getting some well-deserved attention. On top of that, they are back to being a top club in MLS as they are right behind Columbus and Philadelphia in the Eastern Conference standings.

Travel restrictions between Canada and the U.S. have Toronto back in the U.S. playing their home games out of  Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field. There is no reason why they shouldn’t be in the mix for another playoff run especially if they can remain healthy and consistent in their play.
