Ceci continues negative trend

There comes a point where the Leafs have to realize that Cody Ceci cannot handle the burden of playing the tough minutes they are asking him to.

Both penalties taken by the Leafs were because of careless decisions made by Ceci and it could have put Toronto in a deeper hole. Now the question is whether Keefe feels comfortable putting him back in the lineup.

Like Ron Hainsey, Roman Polak and Nikita Zaitsev there continues to be this trend of underachieving yet overused defenceman being asked to play the right side against the toughest competition.

Some were calling for Rasmus Sandin to draw into the lineup over Ceci and it will be tough to justify not having the young defenceman in the lineup over Ceci who continues to show that he can’t handle his assignment.

Having Sandin in the lineup will help things along offensively but it’s tough to gauge whether he can handle the physicality that the Blue Jackets showed in Game 1.

If Keefe continues down this path with Ceci and continues to get the same results it will be tough to not see changes made.
