The Toronto Maple Leafs continue to do what they can to help those impact by the COVID-19 pandemic as John Tavares leads a donation towards front-line workers.

As most of us sit at home in self-isolation, there are some who are not as fortunate as they are on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Toronto Maple Leafs are making sure they are getting the help they deserve.

Led by captain John Tavares, a group of players is providing a donation to help workers at hospitals in the Toronto area — Trillium Health Partners and Mount Sinai Hospital. While we don’t know how much was given, the amount is significant enough that it will help the workers in areas that have become a burden for them.

You can bet the players don’t care if they get credit for what they are doing but what it shows is how simple a donation can make such an impact. It’s really the best thing they can do in this situation considering there isn’t any other way they can contribute during this time.

For Tavares, this is a situation that hits close to home as his wife works for Trillium Health Partners as a physiotherapist. He also knows how devastating the coronavirus has been especially where he used to live in New York.

This isn’t the first time the Leafs captain has tried to reach out and lend his support towards the efforts whether it be donating to workers or sharing an important message pleading for people to practice social distancing.

Earlier this week, Mayor John Tory along with Toronto sports athletes put together a video to pay tribute to the front-line workers making the ultimate sacrifice. It also shows how sports can be a uniting influence during these times and when the situation improves, you can bet people will be coming out in full force to support their teams.
