Toronto Raptors: Kyle Lowry’s heroics in comeback win should provide hope
The Toronto Raptors had a comeback for the ages against the Dallas Mavericks and Kyle Lowry should be given a fair amount of credit for it.
Just when you thought the Toronto Raptors were going to be looking to move on to their next game, Nick Nurse and Kyle Lowry had other plans.
Down 30 points, the Raptors pulled off the largest comeback win in franchise history against the Dallas Mavericks and of course, this victory is impressive on multiple levels. Not only did the team do this with a heavily depleted rotation because of injuries but they did it against a Dallas team that still had a strong lineup minus Luka Doncic.

While Lowry made sure to compliment his teammates for the part they played in the comeback, he was the leader the young players needed to even have a chance in pulling it off. This snippet from Michael Grange’s column after the game certainly captured the spirit of the comeback in a big way.
"“I just go out there and do my job as hard as I can,” Lowry told reporters after the game. “If coach would have pulled me, he’d pull me. Until then just go out there and work as hard as possible.“[In the fourth it was] ‘Just go play. We were just like, ‘look we’re going to try’. [Raptors head coach Nick Nurse] threw us the press and everyone just said, alright let’s do it.”"
Out of the 47 points the Raptors scored in the fourth quarter, Lowry had 21 especially some big shots late in the game when the deficit was getting to a manageable level. It’s one thing to try and say the right things as a way to rally your teammates but it’s another to make the shots that provide belief.
We have seen these types of performances from Lowry in the past like Game 6 of the NBA Finals scoring 26 points and going 4-for-7 from three-point range. This was different, however, because he did not have a Pascal Siakam, Marc Gasol or a Kawhi Leonard to lean on.
Hopefully, this game can be pointed to as inspiration for the tough stretch the Raptors will have to go through without their best players being available. If the team believes in themselves after a game like this, it will go a long way in establishing some hope that they can continue to move forward but they will definitely need Lowry to be at the forefront to make it happen.
How impressive was that win for the Raptors? Can Lowry continue to carry this team with some top players out of the lineup? Let us know in the comments below.
