The Toronto Argonauts will have some decisions to make especially on defence with their list of free agents being released by the league.

We are a few months away from CFL free agency from which means the Toronto Argonauts will need to decide which players are a priority to bring back.

Of course, there hasn’t been an official word on whether the team will bring back head coach Corey Chamblin although TSN’s Dave Naylor reported that there is a good chance he is retained. This is an important decision because if the Argos do decide to bring in a new head coach, they will have a different view of the roster construction.

Let’s say the Argos do decide to keep Chamblin next season, you have to think he will have a big say in which players will be a priority to bring back especially on the defensive side of the ball. At the same time, if the team’s coordinators are changed that will also change things up going into next season.

Looking at the list of free agents, there is certainly a bunch of players who jump out as priorities for the management staff starting with Cleyon Laing, Micah Awe, Devon Coleman and Ian Wild on the defensive side of the ball then there is S.J. Green, Armanti Edwards, Derel Walker and Sean McEwen on offence.

These are players that throughout the season, the Argos saw as a part of the core that they wanted to build around. This is not to say that other players like McLeod Bethel-Thompson, Dakota Prukop, Freddie Bishop III, Frank Beltre aren’t a priority, but there are some who will be a priority to bring back before they make other decisions.

Of course, the biggest one will be at quarterback considering the team is expected to move on from James Franklin and didn’t suggest that Bethel-Thompson was their starter for next season. There are some names in the free-agent market that will probably give the Argos some things to consider including Zach Collaros, Nick Arbuckle, and Jeremiah Masoli.

That is something that will be discussed down the road and fortunately, they seem to be comfortable with their running backs going into next season after signing Karlos Williams to round out the depth chart with Brandon Burks and AJ Ouellette.

dark. Next. Argonauts sign Karlos Williams to replace James Wilder Jr.

What do you make of the free-agent list the Argos have to sort through? Who should be at the top of the list to bring back? Let us know in the comments below.
