Toronto FC could be looking to Serie A again for a new striker with the team reportedly interested in Mario Balotelli.

It looks like Toronto FC is eyeing another Italian player who is seeking a fresh start and a new opportunity.

A report from soccer reporter Nicolò Schira surfaced on the weekend suggesting that Mario Balotelli had drawn interest from TFC as he continues to struggle to fit with Brescia. The only other club that could be in the running is Turkish club Galatasaray.

Of course, there has been no other confirmation of the rumour with TSN’s Kristian Jack suggesting the report was false and that the team was looking prioritize retaining Michael Bradley. Steve Buffrey of the Toronto Sun attempted to get confirmation from the club but didn’t get a comment from GM Ali Curtis.

Many would say the team wouldn’t have an immediate need to add a striker considering they have Jozy Altidore and Alejandro Pozuelo but if Bradley isn’t brought back, that opens a spot for another designated player.

So why should TFC be interested in trying to bring Balotelli to Toronto? Well not only is Balotelli a big name but he’s an accomplished player winning three Serie A championships, a Premier League trophy a UEFA Champions League title and has featured on the national Italian team.

It would also be a nice change of scenery for the 29-year-old who has been on the receiving end of some racist remarks from fans and recently the president of Brescia. The remarks caught the attention of TFC striker Jozy Altidore who came to Balotelli’s defence.

Considering Altidore’s injury history which made them shorthanded in the MLS Cup final, Toronto could use another striker that has proven to be a world-class talent. It might not seem like a big need it wouldn’t be a tough sell for fans who would love nothing more than to have another potential marketable star.
