The Toronto Blue Jays are bringing their top pitching prospect to triple-A Buffalo which is not an insignificant move considering the timing of the move.

Throughout the 2019 season, Toronto Blue Jays fans have been introduced to Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Cavan Biggio and Bo Bichette. Now, we are going close to the point where Nate Pearson‘s will join those names sooner rather than later.

The Blue Jays top pitching prospect was promoted to triple-A Buffalo this past Sunday and that is an exciting development considering many people have been pretty down on the team’s pitching future. However, we have constantly heard about Pearson and for good reason.

More from Tip of the Tower

The 22-year-old (he’ll turn 23 this week) has made a big climb up the MLB prospect rankings to the points where he’s been named in the top 15. There are many reasons why this is the case and he’s about to face his toughest test any prospect can before getting the call to the show.

It was clear at the beginning of the season that pitching in Dunedin wasn’t a challenge for Pearson has pitched to a 0.86 ERA in 21 innings striking out 35 while only allowing three walks. Those are dominating numbers and it was only a matter of time before the Florida native would make his way over to double-A.

In 62 2/3 innings in New Hampshire, Pearson’s numbers didn’t see a major spike which is obviously a good sign. No one would expect him to continue pitching to a sub 1.00 ERA. The fact he was able to keep it to a 2.59 ERA with an increase in innings and competition clearly didn’t get overlooked.

This is where the Blue Jays will get a true sense of how Pearson’s stuff plays against players who have tasted the major leagues in some cases. We all know about the fastball which has clocked in over 100 MPH but some don’t know he’s capable of throwing his slider at around 90 MPH.

Along with Pearson, Forret Wall will also make the move to Buffalo which should be another encouraging move. The 23-year-old was acquired from the Colorado Rockies in the trade for Seunghwan Oh and you have to think he has a chance to make a strong impression.

Wall was named an all-star while playing for the Fisher-Cats hitting .270/.353/.419 with nine home runs, 42 RBIs in 109 games. It is too early to say whether he is a potential September callup but seeing a prospect move up the ranks is always encouraging.
