Ending the season on a high note

Toronto FC will close out the regular season on home soil at BMO Field against the Columbus Crew. Who knows what the situation in the standings will be by the time October 6 comes into view.

However, at the very least, the Trillium Cup will be on the line. Decision Day 2019 should produce a quality match between two teams that will likely be battling for the same or similar spots in the playoffs, but TFC has that sweet sweet home-field advantage.

Meaningless prediction: 2-1 Toronto FC.

More from Tip of the Tower

So, will a 6-3-1 record be enough to put TFC through to the playoffs for the first time since 2017? Six wins should be enough to at least outpace the teams below the Reds, but what about New England, Montreal and NYC FC?

Those battles promise to be much tighter in nature. If the Reds do fail to finagle their way back into the postseason, there will be a litany of questions fired the way of the players, coaches and upper management.

Can Greg Vanney survive another playoff-less season with the highest payroll in the league? Might one of the key components want to move on after two consecutive heart-breaking brushes with late fall soccer?

Might there be a surprise reunion with a certain diminutive Italian striker in the works? These coming ten matches will have a lot to say about what happens next.
