The Toronto Argonauts made their final cuts heading into the 2019 season with a couple of surprising names making the list.

As one of the final teams to make their official roster cuts ahead of Saturday’s CFL roster deadline, the Toronto Argonauts had some tough roster decisions to make.

While they were pretty much set with most of their starting positions, they needed to decide the direction they wanted to go with their depth especially at quarterback and on special teams. To no surprise, the team cut Brandon Bridge as he failed to stand out in the quarterback competition especially in preseason action.

A big focus for Jim Popp during the off-season was to find depth especially on defence and special teams which led to some interesting battles at camp. There were some questions about which kicker would make it out and that question got answered with Ronnie Pfeffer, and Drew Brown making the team.

YouTube star Donald De La Haye was signed to the practice roster while Zach Medeiros and Tyler Crapigna were released. Clearly, the organization sees something in De La Haye as he definitely has the leg to develop into a kicker in this league, he just needs to get himself back in football shape since he hasn’t played in three years.

Akeem Joran was released after spending a lot of time last season in the linebacking group but the additions of Micah Awe, Ian Wild plus the emergence of Nakas Onyeaka made it a tough sell to keep the veteran around.

One thing the team also made it a point to emphasize this season was having more dependable options on the roster considering the number of injuries they went through especially on defence. Some of these players could find their way back with the Double Blue should there be any injury problems down the road.
