With injuries depleting the Toronto Blue Jays’ pitching ranks, the team acquired veteran Edwin Jackson from the Oakland Athletics
The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired pitcher Edwin Jackson from the Oakland Athletics for cash considerations, the team announced Saturday.
News of the trade dropped as the Blue Jays were playing the second game of their series against the Chicago White Sox.
The Blue Jays will serve as the 14th team that the veteran has played for in his career. That breaks the record previously mark of 13 set by Jackson and Octavio Dotel.

Jackson was taken by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the sixth round of the 2001 MLB Amateur Draft. He played the first three years of his career for the Dodgers before being shipped to Tampa Bay in 2006. That started his crazy journey around the majors.
He’s also had stops with the Detroit Tigers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, Washington Nationals, Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins, San Diego Padres, and Baltimore Orioles.
The Blue Jays are in a bind when it comes to starting pitching. Clay Buchholz was forced onto the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation on Thursday, forcing the team to have a bullpen day in the series opener against the Chicago White Sox on Friday. On top of that, Ryan Borucki, David Phelps, Clayton Richard, and Matt Shoemaker are also on the IL.
Last season, Jackson put together a 6-3 record while fashioning a 3.33 ERA and a 4.65 FIP across 92 innings with the Athletics.
Jackson has spent the entire 2019 campaign up to this point in the minors. While splitting time between Triple-A Las Vegas and Single-A Stockton, he’s posted a 6.75 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP over 14 2/3 innings.
The 35-year-old has a chance to make his Blue Jays debut when the team travels to San Fransisco to start a two-game set with the Giants on Tuesday.
