After an impressive regular season with the Prince Albert Raiders, Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Ian Scott has carried that over in the WHL playoffs.

The Prince Albert Raiders had a regular season to remember and they were recognized for it when the WHL announced their end of season awards.

Toronto Maple Leafs goalie prospect Ian Scott was named the top WHL goalie of the year beating out Everett Silvertips netminder Dustin Wolf.

Scott had a 38-8-2 record, 1.83 GAA and a .932 sv% which was a massive improvement on last season when he 3.10 GAA and a .897 sv%. His performance not only earned him the top goalie award but also a spot on Team Canada for the world juniors.

The Leafs signed the 20-year-old to an entry-level contract back in December and continues to be one of the more intriguing prospects in the Leafs minor league system.

With the Raiders off to the WHL final where they will go up against the Vancouver Giants, there is a good chance we can see the Scott head over to the Memorial Cup. The Calgary, Alta., native has the best GAA (1.85) and sv% (.930) among WHL goalies in the post-season.

It won’t be an easy series for the Raiders as the Giants did find success against them in the regular season albeit in a limited sample of two games. However, the Raiders will have home-ice advantage in the series starting on May 3rd.

There is no doubt having a goalie like Scott will give Prince Albert the best chance to move on in the series. He became the first Raiders goalie to earn multiple shutouts in the playoffs since 2005 and was a big reason why Prince Alber was able to move on against the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Vancouver has a strong tandem with Trent Miner (who is draft eligible) and Arizona Coyotes prospect David Tendeck but it’s unsure who will get the bulk of the starts in this series. They also have Bowen Byram, who is one of the top-ranked defencemen heading into the 2019 NHL draft, on the blueline.

Both teams have come a long way to get to the WHL final as Vancouver has not won since 2006 and the Raiders last won 34 years ago.

Expect a competitive series between both teams and hopefully for Scott, he can continue his dominant season with a berth to the Memorial Cup.
