After being waived by the Baltimore Ravens, DeVier Posey could find himself back with the Toronto Argonauts if he doesn’t receive another NFL offer.

One thing Marc Trestman and Jim Popp made clear – if there was an opportunity to bring DeVier Posey back to the Toronto Argonauts, they would try to make it happen.

It was no surprise to see the 2017 Grey Cup MVP get another shot to make it to the NFL, after injuries almost cut his career short. Two seasons with the Argos helped Posey rebuild his value and it could mean a return, if no other NFL team offers him an opportunity to stick in the NFL.

According to TSN’s Dave Naylor, the door still remains open for the Argos to bring back Posey as there’s a mutual interest in a potential reunion. Considering the big plays he made last season and in the Grey Cup, it’s tough to see why the team wouldn’t consider it.

The 27-year-old receiver caught 52 passes for 744 yards and seven touchdowns last season and missed six games with a leg injury, but didn’t let that stop him from being an important contributor for the Argos.

Even after signing Duron Carter, there should still be a role for Posey, considering how much the offence has struggled to put up consistent production this season. Having a player like Posey to go along with S.J. Green, Armanti Edwards and Carter, would be a dream for Trestman and offensive coordinator Tommy Condell.

Where Posey would be able to help out the most is in the redzone. The team has a three-way tie for the lead in touchdown receptions, with Green, Edwards and Declan Cross each having two.

With McLeod Bethel-Thompson taking over for the injured Ricky Ray, he would have already worked with Posey during practice last season. In theory, this allows Posey to get up to speed at a quicker pace than most NFL cuts.

The Argos do not plan on having Carter play in either game against Hamilton. Depending on what happens with Posey, it would be possible that he gets into the lineup before Carter, because he already knows the playbook.
