Marcus Stroman was forced to leave Tuesday’s game against the Boston Red Sox with a blister, but claims he won’t miss his next start for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Marcus Stroman has endured a torrid season with the Toronto Blue Jays. He’s had to contend with injuries, loss of form, falling out with the local media and trade speculation.

As such, when Stroman had to leave Tuesday’s game against the Boston Red Sox with a blister, you can almost imagine him rolling his eyes and thinking “here we go again”. The blister opened up on his right middle finger, while he threw warmup pitches before the top of the eighth inning.

One of the ironies was, that the blister occurred on a night when the 27-year-old was having one of his best starts on the season. He allowed just two hits, one unearned run and three walks in seven innings of action.

After the game, Stroman admitted the blister started getting bad during the top of the seventh inning. However, as per Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith, he is confident the blister will not be an issue: “I won’t be missing my next start.”

Of course, it’s one thing for the 2017 Gold Glove Award winner to say he won’t miss his next start. The reality, however, is that the final decision will be made by the Blue Jays’ medical staff.

At least there is no sense of urgency for Stroman to return to the mound. Unfortunately for everyone concerned, this is the result of being 51-61 in the standings and out of genuine contention for a wild card spot.

For what it’s worth though, the 2012 first round draft pick doesn’t have ongoing issues in the same way as teammate Aaron Sanchez. For example, when Stroman suffered a blister to the same finger in a game against the New York Yankees last July, he did not miss his next start.
