Several teams have reportedly being in touch with the Toronto Blue Jays, to ask about 2017 Gold Glove winner Marcus Stroman.

There’s no denying this has been a year to forget so far for Marcus Stroman. The Toronto Blue Jays‘ pitcher is on course for his poorest season yet in the Majors, currently producing career-worsts for ERA, FIP, WHIP and walks per nine innings.

And this is before we even mention Stroman’s recent fallout with the Toronto-based media. This has led to some calls for him to grow up, although I don’t believe he deserved quite as much backlash as he received.

Regardless, some interest speculation has emerged, which could potentially impact the 27-year-old’s future. According to a report from Fancred Sports’ Jon Heyman, several teams have contacted the Blue Jays to inquire about his availability.

This should come as little surprise really, with Stroman’s struggles this season. You imagine some teams feel now is the time to strike, with the Blue Jays potentially being more open to offers.

However, as Heyman adds, the strong belief is the 2012 first round draft pick won’t be going anywhere. The Blue Jays have him under team control for another two seasons, before he becomes a free agent.

In addition, given Stroman’s subpar form, the likelihood is the Blue Jays wouldn’t get as much for him at this stage. As such, it makes more sense to hold onto him, at least for now.

Despite the team’s poor showing on the field, they want to keep hold of as much of their young talent as possible. While 2018 might be a lost year, management will be aiming to return to contention as soon as possible.

In respect of Stroman specifically, the belief (hope) is that this season is just a one-off for him. It was only last year that he had his best campaign yet in the Majors.

The Medford, New York native was the Blue Jays’ best pitcher in 2017, as he set career-highs of 13 wins and 33 starts. At the end of the season, he won his first ever Gold Glove and finished eighth in voting for the Cy Young award.
