However, any concerns quickly eradicated, as Ray went on to have one of his finest ever years in the CFL. This included throwing for the second-most passing yards and touchdowns of his professional career.
Still, not much was expected from the Argonauts entering the playoffs, due to their mediocre 9-9 record. What followed was a magical ride which would surprise everyone, as they made it all the way to the 105th Grey Cup.
Understandably heavy underdogs to the Stampeders, the Argos came from behind to secure a dramatic 27-24 win in snowy Ottawa. And Ray more than did his bit, throwing for just under 300 yards, one throw and no picks.
For many, winning a CFL-record fourth Grey Cup as a quarterback should have been the sign for Ray to walk off into the sunset, but he decided to return for one final year. Regardless, this takes first place on our list, after he proved all the doubters — including this writer — wrong, by showing he could still perform, stay healthy and succeed in the CFL.
