Frustration is growing for the Toronto Blue Jays, after MLB denies their request to speed up the process of making a ruling on Roberto Osuna.

When Roberto Osuna was arrested on May 8 for allegedly assaulting a woman, no one knew what to expect. He was placed on administrative leave by MLB and the Toronto Blue Jays wondered how long the situation would drag on.

Six weeks later, the matter is still not particularly clear, expect for the fact Osuna has a trial date set for July 9. Five times his administrative leave has been extended, and that’s so far.

As a result, the Blue Jays’ frustration is growing. And recent events won’t have helped with this.

As reported by Jon Heyman of FRS Baseball, Toronto asked MLB if they could find a way to expedite a finding. However, this request was denied.

As Heyman goes on to write, the league office is not prepared to make a ruling until they have all the facts. And while the early indications are Osuna is in big trouble, there is still little in the way of information available, concerning what happened on that Tuesday night back in May.

More from Toronto Blue Jays

What we do know is the 2017 All-Star has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. You imagine clearing his name is the main concern, as opposed to how the situation is impacting his employer.

While Osuna doesn’t have to be found guilty for MLB to issue a ban, the severity will most likely be influenced by the outcome of his case. Any potential suspension could be anywhere between 15 and 50 games.

Any suspension period will be unpaid. If the ban lasts more than 15 days, the 23-year-old’s free agency will be delayed a year, until after the 2021 season.

However, Osuna potentially has a lot more at stake in this matter. The outcome of the case will likely determine his future with the Toronto Blue Jays and possibly baseball in general, no matter how talented he is.

The Mexico native has an impressive resume, which includes becoming the youngest player in MLB history to reach 100 saves. He has also received praise for publicly discussing his battle with anxiety, but it could ultimately all mean nothing.
