Toronto FC: Jonathan Osorio transfer rumors seem like a stretch
By Nick McAdam
With the summer transfer window approaching, rumors are starting to swirl around regarding Toronto FC midfielder Jonathan Osorio.
Could Jonathan Osorio be set to move? Could Toronto FC actually consider letting him leave?
A report has come from the Toronto Sun‘s Kurtis Larson, who notes the in-form midfielder is attracting interest from clubs in Mexico and Germany.
To which club exactly? That’s yet to be known. Here’s what Larson had to say:
"The Sun understands a Mexican club has put in an offer to purchase Osorio this summer. He also has legitimate interest from clubs in the German Bundesliga."
Nobody can really confirm the reliability of the rumor, as usually the buying club is revealed in a quick manner.
The source goes on to note that the 26-year-old’s low wages might play a big part in some sort of move away from his boyhood team. At the moment, TFC have somewhere near $8 million committed to midfield players, but only $200,000 of that goes to Osorio.
It’d make a really good case if the rumor was true, especially with the form the Canadian is in. One of the top goal scorers from the CONCACAF Champions League has gone on to add five goals and two assists in MLS play. Recently, Osorio has earned two Man of the Match performances, against the Philadelphia Union and D.C. United.
To add to this, it’s been quite the progression in play for the midfielder from this time last season. According to WhoScored, Osorio is amassing a 7.29 season rating so far, which is good for second on the squad. This is an improvement from last season.

Osorio has surely earned an increase in pay, but it might be a stretch to say he’d put in a transfer request to make this happen. The versatile midfielder has seemed pretty happy in recent comments to the media, and as mentioned before, he’s proving to be an instrumental part of Greg Vanney’s lineup for now and the future.
In no way can it be predicted that Osorio will stay with the Reds over the summer, because a move is possible. Right now, however, the boy is playing some great football. It should be motivation for Osorio to finish this campaign off on a high note, in order to earn a pay rise.
And it could be a big one, too. Transfermarkt has Osorio valued around $1 million. In other terms, this could mean one big contract if TFC were to start the initiative to lock him up.
Keep an eye on this story for the couple of months ahead. Everything is going well for Osorio in Toronto right now, and information on the rumor looks to be too little and too bleak for Toronto FC to even be convinced into selling what could be an important part of their squad for many seasons to come.
