Josh Donaldson’s past injury history might make Toronto Blue Jays fans worried about his calf injury but he’ doesn’t seem concerned.

The last thing the Toronto Blue Jays would want is to see Josh Donaldson miss time with an injury after already spending time on the disabled list.

In the fifth inning of the 8-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox, the former MVP was taken out of the game for calf tightness. This is not an ideal situation for the Blue Jays especially with the infield defence struggling but Donaldson doesn’t seem concerned about it.

As Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi wrote in his column, the 32-year-old had issues with his calf the past two seasons and already missing time with a shoulder injury. Usually, Donaldson is a more productive player as the season goes along but he’s also struggled to stay on the field.

Obviously, Donaldson’s injury could make it tough to market him in a trade if the Blue Jays get to that point which could happen if the team continues to play like this.

At the same time, fans should avoid the temptation of wanting Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to be called up. The Blue Jays season isn’t going to be saved by one player and there’s no sense bringing him up when things aren’t going great for the team but they shouldn’t be holding him back either.

It’s not easy considering how the New York Yankees and the Red Sox are back to dominating the AL East. The Blue Jays aren’t going to outspend either team in free agency so at this point their best bet is to be patient with their prospects.

When it comes to Donaldson, they might be best to give him some rest and end Russell Martin‘s experiment in tough defensive positions that he has limited to no experience in.

Martin would be better off playing at third base if John Gibbons wants to get Luke Maile into the lineup.
