LOS ANGELES, CA – JANUARY 09: Vince Carter /

Vince Carter

When the initial report of the Raptors’ interest in bringing Carter back emerged, there was a lot of buzz from fans who want to see the reunion but also some who are skeptical of what this move would do for the team.

There is no doubting the legacy Carter has with the Raptors organization, fans and basketball in this country. It would be a great story if he could be a part of the team’s best chance to get to the NBA finals.

There has been a compelling case laid out as to why the Raptors should consider Carter and why they should stay clear of the 41-year old.

Eric Koreen of The Athletic wrote how the move would be good for the team’s public relations and had success as a three-point shooter when he was with the Dallas Mavericks. He is also a versatile defensive player, which would come in handy if the Raptors need a perimeter defender.

The Raptors should also be cautious with Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan‘s struggles in the playoffs and as Koreen mentions, Carter could ease some of the pressure for them.

Reports suggest the Sacramento Kings want Carter to remain with the team, but if he has a chance to go for the title then it would make sense for the Kings to buy him out.

A lot of that will depend on whether Carter approaches the Kings for a buyout and if he would want to sign with the Raptors should he become available.

All Raptors fans can hope is that there is a feel good story left for them. However, even if Carter does not come back to the Raptors this season, the door will be open for something in the future.

And once that day comes, “Air Canada” will certainly receive a nice ovation and hopefully he has a dunk or two for Raptors’ fans.
