As a busy week in the NHL continues, the Toronto Maple Leafs know when they will be playing with the release of the schedule for next season.

Toronto Maple Leafs‘ fans now know when they’ll see their favourite team play again with the season schedule being released Thursday afternoon.

The preseason begins September 18th against the Ottawa Senators. There doesn’t look to be any split squad games which fans have seen in the past. Only one of the preseason games will be played at the Air Canada Centre whereas the rest will be at Ricoh.

Now on to the regular season schedule. One of the complaints last year was how many back-to-backs the Leafs had. The Toronto Maple Leafs were one of three teams that had to play 18 of them. Thankfully, that number has been reduced to 10.

More from Tip of the Tower

The 101st Leafs season will begin on the road in Winnipeg with the home opener against the New York Rangers October 7th. The California road trip is taking place earlier from October 20th to November 4th which includes a game in St. Louis. If you’re looking for New Year’s plans, the Leafs will be taking on the Golden Knights New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas. That will be their second game against them as their set to play at home November 6th.

Another game to take note of is the Tuesday December 19th game against the Carolina Hurricanes. Besides being the earliest game starting at 2 pm, it also marks the 100th year anniversary of the first franchise game. The Toronto Arenas played their first game on that date back in 1917 as part of the first game day in the NHL.

March will include the outdoor game against the Washington Capitals at Naval Academy. The longest stretch of games on the road is five, whereas the longest home stretch is six. Fortunately, the final week in the season wont be as threatening as this past one. The 2017-18 season will come to an end at home April 7th against the Montreal Canadiens.

One thing to take note of is the opportunity of a late season playoff push. The final 10 games are spread across 21 games where six are at home. If the Leafs are on the outside looking in mid-March, the home factor will be a huge benefit.

It’s amazing what a non-pressed NHL season can look like isn’t it? Mark your calendars Leafs fans, the beginning of 002 is coming. They made the playoffs in their 100th season and there’s no telling what they can accomplish in the next one. I have a question though, #IsItOctoberYet?
