Who’s hurt?

Dalton Pompey

Let’s focus on the depth for a bit as the Blue Jays even struggled in the farm to find their replacement.

The young star left a Spring Training game in March after suffering a concussion against the Blue Jays representing Team Canada sliding into second. It was only a few weeks back that he started his rehab assignment to get back on the field.

Pompey has seen playing time in Buffalo as recent as June 5th. However, he left the game with a leg injury. With these consistent injuries, not only is there no timeline for him to see MLB playing time, but fans might shift to the thought of “will Pompey get to the majors in 2017?”

Chris Coghlan

Here’s a player who has the definition of utility written all over him.

Despite making most of his appearances at third base due to the injury of Josh Donaldson, Coghlan also has experience in left field.

The former National League Rookie of the Year (2009) has started six of his eight appearances in left field and also hasn’t hit an error in the process. Despite that he wouldn’t be one of the first options for the lineup, slashing .299/.267/.566, the option for left field is there.

Update: As I write this, Coghlan was placed on the DL with a left wrist contusion.

Anthony Alford

Anthony Alford made his anticipated MLB debut on May 19th against the Baltimore Orioles. He went hitless in his first three starts and finally picked up his first base hit in his fourth start against the Milwaukee Brewers.

However, that would be all for Alford. He suffered a wrist injury during that fourth start and was soon placed on the infamous ten day disabled list. At this time, there’s no timeline for his return as well. However, when he returns, a stint to the minors looks more likely before another appearance in the majors.

Darrel Ceciliani

This one had to be the most heartbreaking injury of all, Ceciliani was called up after Kevin Pillar was suspended for his comments. It was looking good for the 26- year old as he hit an RBI double but then it would take a big turn the following night. Ceciliani took a big swing at the plate and launched a two-run home run but he was holding his shoulder as he jogged the bases. It was then announced that the outfielder partially dislocating his shoulder while hitting the homer and would be placed on the DL that night.
