After The Atlanta Braves took three games from the Toronto Blue Jays, was it possible that they would be swept after their recent turnaround?

The Atlanta Braves have inevitably showed they aren’t what their record shows. They had scored 27 runs against the Toronto Blue Jays, who only scored 15.

The Braves spoiled the Jays’ current ride of success they were displaying and it’s definitely put some sourness with the team and with fans. But if the Jays wanted to get back on the winning side, they had to prevent the Braves from sweeping them. And that is just what they did.

Stroman Goes Deep

As the Blue Jays were looking for some offensive spark in this final game in the series against the Braves, they definitely didn’t expect the spark to be from pitcher Marcus Stroman. Sportsnet commented on Marcus Stroman’s first career homerun:

"“The right-hander hit his first career home run in Thursday’s game against the Atlanta Braves. It was the second hit of his career (and the season) in nine plate appearances. He had a double and scored a run in April when the team visited the St. Louis Cardinals.”"

More homers where that came from

Home runs are just what the doctor ordered for the Jays. Stroman was not the only one to hit a surprising homer in the game. Amazingly, Darrell Ceciliani and Luke Maile also went deep, which in the end resulted in a 9-0 win for the Jays.

More from Toronto Blue Jays

Having these type of players step up in the game was a nice change. At the end of the day, you hope and anticipate that players like Jose Bautista and Kendrys Morales are going to put up the numbers.

However, when players at the bottom of the lineup step it up, it shows teamwork. It shows the strength of the team and that when help is needed players can come forward. The unexpected theatrics provided a game that will be well remembered.

Bad Blood

As this game was destined for trouble, players had to keep their emotions in check. The Kevin Pillar suspension and Freddie Freeman being put on the DL with a wrist fracture were two big incidents that occurred in the game on Wednesday.

Pillar’s homophobic slur costed him a two-game suspension and a controversial hit by pitch from Aaron Loup put Freeman out for 10 weeks. Trouble did strike as Bautista was hit by a pitch that appeared quite intentional. However, he took the pitch like a true man and player, and ended up going 2-for-4 in the game.
