Toronto Raptors’ DeMar DeRozan had a career year this season and he was rewarded for his efforts by being named to the All-NBA Third Team.

The NBA announced their All-NBA teams on Thursday and Toronto Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan was named to the All-NBA Third Team for the first time in his career.

DeRozan is only the fourth Raptors player to be named to an All-NBA Team, joining Kyle Lowry (2015-16 Third Team), Chris Bosh (2006-07 Second Team) and Vince Carter (1999-00 Third Team and Second Team in 2000-01).

DeRozan finished the voting with 62 points and just beat out Chris Paul, who finished with 49 points, for the final guard spot. Kyrie Irving (14), Klay Thompson (14), and Damian Lillard (12) also received votes.

When you consider the Los Angeles Clippers won 69 percent of the games CP3 played in, and how much of an impact he had on both ends of the floor, you can understand why some people think Paul should have gotten the nod over DeRozan.

However, this year’s guard class was stacked and it also looks like voters were punishing Paul for missing time due to an injury, which is surprising. On top of that, it’s not like DeRozan had an above-average season. He was phenomenal, to say the least.

As is always the case with these voter selected teams, there’s debate, and who each voter selects is completely subjective and based on their own opinion, so there’s bound to be a “snub” or two. Either way, DeRozan was more than deserving of this accolade and it’s a nice way for him to wrap up what was truly a career year.
