The Toronto Blue Jays were riding on a three game winning streak looking to make it four, but Mat Latos got rocked in a loss to the New York Yankees.

Things have been looking up for the Toronto Blue Jays as they have won three games in a row, and on Monday the Jays beat the Yankees 7-1. It appeared as though this was going to be a turnaround for the team. The Blue Jays have been inconsistent and have blown leads in many games that could of been wins instead of losses.

The bullpen has been an issue since the start of the season and losing two starting pitchers hasn’t made it any easier for the team. With Mat Latos not having the best numbers, and not being able to keep his ERA under 4.00 in his career, is it really a surprise that he was shelled by the Yankees?

We Need A Pitcher Not A Belly Itcher

Latos allowed seven runs, 10 hits, struck out five and walked one across four innings. It’s unfortunate as the Jays just can’t seem to catch a break these days. It was a hard game to watch as John Gibbons‘ hands were tied. The bullpen was in need of rest so he needed to get as many innings out of Latos as he could despite his poor performance. After every home run that was allowed by Latos he shook his head like he couldn’t believe it.

Twitter feed was filled with harsh criticism against Latos. It will be hard to say the least for fans to believe he can bounce back against the Rays on Sunday. Latos is the second pitcher in Jays history to give up four home runs in a game in Yankee Stadium.

After Latos surrendered the third home run, you can only imagine what that does to a pitcher’s confidence. It can’t be easy to continue pitching when things are just not going your way.

On the Bright Side

If we are to look at any positives from this game the Toronto Sun outlines them.

"“The highlight for Toronto was the two home runs (both to left field) by Steve Pearce, his first two of the season, both came off New York starter Masahiro Tanaka. It was Pearce’s fifth career multi-home run game and first since last year in Seattle while he was with Tampa. Pearce also hit a double in the eighth.”"
