4) TFC’s challenge for the Supporters Shield

First things first, the most important thing for Toronto FC to do, is actually qualify for the postseason. Barring a collapse of epic proportions, they should be okay, currently sitting 12 points ahead of the final playoff spot in the East.

After that, the next two steps are to clinch a home game and then top spot in the Eastern Conference. Currently one point behind New York City FC and with a game in hand, TFC at least have some control over what happens, at least from a statistical standpoint if nothing else.

The Reds also have a favorable schedule the rest of the way, with six of their last nine games at BMO Field, where they have only lost once this season. Key fixtures from their remaining matches include a clash with the New York Red Bulls – just behind them in the standings – and two games against their arch rivals, the Montreal Impact.

Survive all that, and TFC still have to contend with FC Dallas and the Colorado Rapids, the top two teams in the Western Conference. Certainly, TFC has what it takes to win their first Supporters Shield in franchise history, but a lot of thing need to go right between now and the end of the season.
