The Toronto Argonauts have been in touch with the CFL, to complain about the controversial hit on Ricky Ray, which will sideline him for three-to-six weeks.

The Toronto Argonauts are still not happy about the hit by Vaughan Martin, which will keep Ricky Ray out of action for anywhere between three to six weeks. In fact, they’re so unhappy, they’ve decided to do something about it.

As reported by the Toronto Star’s Chris O’Leary, the Argonauts have spoken to the league about the controversial hit, which took place during Monday’s game against the Montreal Alouettes. Head coach Scott Milanovich said: ” There was a discussion. I don’t know (if anything will come from it).

“I’m not going to speculate on it. It’s in the league’s hands.”

It will be interesting to see what the CFL does in this instance, and not just because quarterbacks seem to be dropping like flies at the moment. As far as Ray is concerned, there’s no doubt the hit by Martin was late.

Speaking to the Canadian Press, Ray said: “It felt late. It felt like I was standing there for about two seconds watching the play and I got rolled into.”

There’s never a good time to lose your star quarterback to an injury, but it only adds to the frustrate when it happens during his best game of the season. The three-time Grey Cup champion threw for three scores and completed 85.3 percent of his passes against Montreal, the seventh-best single-game figure in franchise history.

In any event, the Argonauts now hand the reigns over to Logan Kilgore. The backup will get a baptism of fire, with his first start coming against the East Division-leading Ottawa Redblacks.

Fortunately for Kilgore, he’s in good hands with Milanovich, who has an excellent track record of preparing backup quarterbacks to play. Look no further than the success of Zach Collaros and Trevor Harris, during the 43-year old’s tenure in Toronto.

The Argonaut’s head coach is currently moulding the offense around Kilgore’s strength’s. He made reference to the previous backups, when talking to O’Leary and the rest of the media on Wednesday.

Milanovich said: “Logan’s more maybe more . . . in Trevor (Harris’s) mould. (Kilgore) probably has a little better, little quicker arm – Trevor probably has a bit better mobility.

“Logan’s a bit like (New Orleans Saints QB Drew) Brees – I know he played there and that’s why I think of it, when I first saw film of him, he was with the Saints. He likes to drive the ball, intermediate routes down the field, he can throw the deep ball.”

In truth, if Kilgore can be even half as successful as Harris and Collaros where, the Argonauts will be fine. If not, the Double Blue’s season could well be in trouble, by the time Ray returns from his sprained MCL.
