1) Super Bowl XLIX

The biggest problem with putting this game as number one, is that it stands for everything that frustrates this writer about the NFL (and sports in general). Whenever a close, exciting game takes place, it is automatically called the best Super Bowl of all time, because it is the freshest in everyone’s memories.

Along those lines, several of the games in this list had that mantle placed upon them immediately afterwards. However, despite an initial reluctance to place it at the top, Super Bowl XLIX was truly a heavyweight bout between two evenly-matched teams.

The game was set as a ‘pick ’em’, which told you everything you needed to know about how little there was between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots.

Having the reigning champions and number one defence face Bill Belichick and Brady, who were chasing their fourth Super Bowl while dealing with the allegations of deflategate, only heightened the anticipation.

Fortunately for everyone, the game lived up to all expectations, with a back-and-fourth encounter that went down to the wire. The defining moment was the most criticized call in NFL history, with the Seahawks deciding to throw from the one-yard line and having Russell Wilson‘s pass picked off by Malcolm Butler.
