The Buffalo Bills have not finished improving their offence ahead of the 2019 season, with the signing of undrafted free agent David Sills.

David Sills V has a chance to play in the NFL after signing with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent this week.

The Bills had a shockingly poor group of receivers in the 2018 season, ranking 31st in the NFL with just 174.6 average passing yards per game.

With that in mind, the Bills added Cole Beasley, John Brown, Andre Roberts, Duke Williams and now Sills to try to address their lack of depth and production outside starters Zay Jones and Robert Foster.

More from Buffalo Bills

In Sills, the Bills have a player that initially had hopes of becoming a quarterback in the NFL but excelled at the receiver position in his two recent seasons playing for the Big 12’s West Virginia Mountaineers.

Sills joined the Big 12 program hoping to become a QB, but was moved out wide and had 131 receiving yards and two touchdowns in seven games.

After the 2015 season, he opted to move down to junior college in hopes of impressing Division I programs with his throwing arm.

Despite throwing 15 touchdowns in JUCO, Sills returned to West Virginia once again – committing himself to develop further as a receiver.

His decision to return paid off with back-to-back 900+ receiving yard season, with Sills becoming the featured receiver under then-head coach Dana Holgorsen.

In 2017, Sills caught 60 passes for 980 yards (averaging 16.33 yards per catch) and led the nation with 18 touchdowns.

His efforts saw him named an All-American after the season, with his 2018 campaign equally as impressive.

This past campaign, Sills caught 65 passes for 986 yards (averaging 15.17 yards per catch) and 15 touchdowns – leading the Big 12 by the end of the season.

The Wilmington, Delaware native has good size for the NFL, standing at 6-foot-4, 210lbs, and could be a real threat for the Bills if he is able to continue his development and grasp the speed of the professional level.

The 2019 season will see the Bills rotate a number of receivers and offensive packages that could involve Sills, while his predominant role could be on special teams.

This will allow him time to learn the team’s playbook and build some chemistry with the likes of starting quarterback Josh Allen.

If Sills is able to be something in the NFL, even as a dependable depth option, the undrafted free agent signing will look like a smart move by general manager Brandon Beane.

While it’s still early days, Sills’ production over the past two seasons is enough to have the Buffalo Bills excited and sees a young, talented receiver added to a growing and largely improved corps.
