On Monday, the Buffalo Bills announced the signing of receiver Duke Williams from the CFL, and he looks like he could be a steal for the team.

The Buffalo Bills have had difficulties at the receiver position in recent years, sending Sammy Watkins packing, with Zay Jones and Robert Foster now looking to be the best options available for the team out wide.

The Bills need to address the position aggressively this off-season, with plenty of rumors suggesting a move for Antonio Brown could be on the cards.

But one of the team’s first moves could prove to be one of their best, with the signing of Duke Williams to a futures contract.

More from Buffalo Bills

The former Auburn Tigers receiver went undrafted in 2016, after making just 15 regular season appearances for the SEC program.

He originally signed a three-year contract with the LA Rams, but was cut and never made an appearance for the team – opting to take his talents to Canada.

Two years later and Williams has a legitimate opportunity to stick around in the NFL, and succeed in a similar way to his stint in the CFL.

In 31 games north of the border, the 6-foot-3, 225 pounds receiver caught 134 passes for an incredible 2294 yards and 15 touchdowns – with 1,579 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns coming in this past season alone.

Quarterback Josh Allen showed plenty of potential across the 2018 NFL season, but often had to rely on his running ability with few passing options available down the field.

While Williams, whose birth name is D’haquille, isn’t likely to be the team’s top receiver from day one, he could certainly progress and develop into a key player on the Buffalo Bills’ offense next season.

The Canadian game is certainly different from the NFL, but the roles that receivers take are translatable and Williams should be able to contribute right out of the gate.

Adding another big target should be top of the Bills’ off-season goals, but bringing in a player such as Williams will do much to help the team.

Next. Le'Veon Bell must be a top target for the Bills. dark
