The Buffalo Bills lost 27-23 to the New York Jets on Sunday, but it was the number of injuries the team suffered that was more disappointing.

A 27-23 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon sees the Buffalo Bills now sitting with the same 4-9 record as their AFC East opponents, who clinched the win with a 14-point fourth quarter.

While the result is undoubtedly a disappointment for Sean McDermott‘s team, the potential loss of key players due to injuries suffered will be viewed as far more disappointing.

Star running back LeSean McCoy left the game with a hamstring injury before it even really got going – rushing for just one yard on two carries.

While McCoy has had a somewhat disappointing season by his standards, he is still a crucial piece of the Bills’ offence.

More from Buffalo Bills

He has rushed for 479 total yards this season while also hauling in 210 receiving yards, though he has only managed to find the end zone on two occasions this campaign.

McCoy is set to have an MRI scan on his hamstring to determine the extent of the injury, but the worry is that the 10-year veteran could be done for the season.

Adding to the disappointment of losing McCoy, kicker Stephen Hauschka appeared uncomfortable for half of the Jets game – having been the target of a cheap shot on a blocked kick just before half time.

Hauschka was able to return to the game, but didn’t look to be at his best – understandably so after being blindsided by Henry Anderson, who stands at 6-foot-6 and 301 pounds.

It is unlikely that the former Seattle Seahawks kicker will miss any time due to the knock, but it clearly had an impact on his game against the Jets.

One of the biggest bright spots for the Buffalo Bills this season has been their defence, particularly their strong linebacker corps.

However, the loss to the Jets saw second-year pro Matt Milano carted off in the final two minutes of the game.

Before landing awkwardly on a third-and-goal tackle situation, Milano was having a stellar game – recording six solo tackles, with one for a loss.

Per CBS Sports, Milano was spotted hobbling around after the game – a possibly encouraging sign that he may not be lost for the rest of the season.

Regardless of how long these players will — or won’t — be out for, the concern for their health is undoubtedly there and losing all three would have huge implications for the Bills moving forward.

A number of other minor injuries were suffered during the game, with the team seemingly only having one legitimate receiver available for quarterback Josh Allen to pass to at one stage.

With the Bills now out of playoff contention, it is time for the team to look to the future and aim to keep their best players as fresh as possible, with hopes of coming back stronger next year.
