The Buffalo Bills have reduced their wide receiver corps by two, after cutting both Kelvin Benjamin and Andre Holmes on Tuesday.

The cuts bring an end to brief but disappointing stints for Kelvin Benjamin and Andre Holmes, with the Buffalo Bills not getting the desired production from either player.

The Bills originally traded third-round and seventh-round picks in the 2018 draft to the Carolina Panthers for Benjamin at the trade deadline last season, with the 2014 first rounder viewed as a player who could legitimately upgrade a weak receiving corps.

The Bills had traded Sammy Watkins to the LA Rams earlier that summer and were looking to improve the talent around then-quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

However, Benjamin failed to live up to expectations and suited up for the Bills in just 18 regular season games.

More from Buffalo Bills

In those 18 regular season appearances, Benjamin totaled just 571 receiving yards, averaging 14.6 yards per catch, registering just two touchdowns in the process.

The former Carolina Panthers wide man saw his catch percentage plummet to an abysmal 37.1 percent this season, having averaged above 50 percent for his entire career previously.

The 6-foot-5, 245 pounds receiver will undoubtedly be picked up by another team in the NFL, but will also find himself on a very short leash with whoever is willing to take a gamble on a player who has not produced enough over the past two seasons.

The cutting of Benjamin is just another disappointing story for the Bills, who currently sit third in the AFC East with a 4-8 record heading into this weekend’s divisional game against the New York Jets.

But Benjamin is not the only receiver to find himself without a team, after Holmes was also cut after a two-year spell in Buffalo.

Holmes totaled just 277 receiving yards while wearing a Bills uniform, having played in 26 regular season games for the team.

His catch percentages were more favorable, averaging just under 56 percent, but he was never viewed as a legitimate threat with the Bills and only made five starts after joining as a free agent in March 2017.
