We look at the latest injury news and game odds for the Buffalo Bills, as they prepare to host the Chicago Bears at New Era Field on Sunday.

It’s tough to look at the positives when you’re a Buffalo Bills fan. For example, take last Monday night against the New England Patriots.

The defense was tremendous for the majority of the game, against an opponent who has had the team’s number essentially since the turn of the century. However, a lot of people preferred to concentrate on the ineptitude of the offense, as the Bills fell apart in the fourth quarter and lost 25-6.

Of course, the negativity is entirely understandable when looking at the standings. The Bills enter Week 9 with a 2-6 record and the worst points differential in the NFL.

If there is one positive for the Bills, they get to play five of their final eight games at home, where you figure they at least somewhat improve their chances of winning. Not that the bookies agree with this heading into Sunday’s action.

More from Buffalo Bills

According to Odds Shark, the Bills are 10-point underdogs for the clash with the Chicago Bears. And that’s an increase from 7.5 points during last week.

The averaged predicted scoreline isn’t much better, at 25.8-14.7 in favor of the Bears. There might be some hope for the Bills with Khalil Mack being listed as questionable, but the over-riding sentiment is that the Bills are a poor football team.

Turning to the all-time matchups between the two sides, the Bears lead the all-time series 7-5. However, it is worth noting the Bills have a 4-2 record between the teams in six meetings in Buffalo.

For what it’s worth, the Bills won the last meeting between the two sides, albeit back in 2014. Regardless, winning 23-20 on the road in Chicago was an impressive result.

Once again, the Bills’ injury report is nothing substantial, with just six players on the Week 9 edition. And once more you can immediately remove defensive stalwarts Lorenzo Alexander and Kyle Williams from the report, as both were rested during this past week and will suit up on Sunday.

Josh Allen is still out with his right elbow injury and although he is set to resume throwing, there is no hurry to rush him back. However, this isn’t the only bad news on the quarterback front.

Derek Anderson was listed as questionable for Week 9 with a concussion, but has now been officially ruled out. This means the Bills fans (and players) will have to endure the return of the Nathan Peterman show.

Another player going through concussion protocol is linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who has started every game so far this season. However, just like Anderson, Edmunds has been downgraded from questionable to out and will be sorely missed against the Bears.

Rounding out the injury report is defensive end Trent Murphy, who did not practice all last week due to a knee injury. He is listed as out and will miss his second consecutive game.

Overall, the Bills’ defense will do their best to make a game of it on Sunday. Unfortunately for the fans though, the disastrous quarterback situation ensures they will drop to 2-7 on the season.
