1) A new personal high

DeRozan was in a good place entering the 2016-17 campaign, having signed a five-year, $139 million deal during the offseason. And he began the season on fire with 72 points through his first two games, to surpass Carter’s previous team record for combined scoring to start a campaign.

DeRozan didn’t stop there, as he scored 30+ points in his first five games of the season. This resulted in the best start to a campaign, since a certain Michael Jordan scored 30+ in six straight games to begin the 1986-87 season.

The shooting guard never slowed down and his regular heroics resulted in a couple of significant milestones. He was named a starter for the 2017 All-Star Game and selected to the All-NBA Third Team, both for the first time in his career.

By the end of the season, DeRozan had set a new career-high of 27.3 points per contest (as well as a new best of 5.2 boards per game). Things were looking so good; who knew he only had one more season left in Toronto…..
