6. Chanting U-S-A, U-S-A is Hilariously Stupid

After an altercation between Valanciunas, Beal, Wall and Ibaka, the Washington Wizards’ stadium operations crew thought it was a good idea to play Born In the USA. Along with the patriotic song, the crowd found it appropriate to chant “USA! USA!” that’s typically best suited for international competition.

The funniest thing is, Marcin Gortat is Polish and is the Washington Wizards centre. Not to mention, DeMar DeRozan, Kyle Lowry, Miles and Powell are all American.

So in an effort to seem patriotic (borderline jingoistic) about their national capital’s basketball team, it mearly drew snickers and sneers across the internet.

Yes the Toronto Raptors are an NBA team based in Canada; no, that doesn’t mean all the players on their team are Canadian. Who exactly is this chant supposed to be directed to?

Does Gortat get drafted as an honorary citizen of the United States of America, because he plays for the Wizards? Did Lowy, DeRozan and co. get their citizenship revoked when signing with the Raptors?

If DeRozan plays for the national team again, will they boo him when he walks on the court? Would he even be invited due to his ties to the Toronto Raptors? Are you realizing how non-sensical the chant is?
