4) Closing thoughts

Overall, Botterill gave an excellent first impression, but isn’t that often the case with introductory press conferences? Not that this should be held against him.

The University of Michigan alumni has a focused idea of what he wants for the Sabres’ organization. On the evidence of Thursday, you truly believe he will pour his heart and soul into making them genuine contenders for the Stanley Cup.

More from Buffalo Sabres

It helps that Botterill gets the vibe of the Buffalo sports scene. He appreciates the fans undying loyalty and passion, and will do everything possible to reward this devotion.

The three-time World Junior Hockey Championships Gold medal winner has his work cut out. He has a lot to contend with, including finding new leadership for the scouting department.

Botterill has a reputation for being a salary cap expert, which will be put to the test in Buffalo. This will include negotiating a contract extension for Eichel and deciding what to do with Evander Kane.

Welcome back to Western New York Mr. Botterill. You’re in for one heck of a tumultuous ride.
