Tyrod Taylor Set to Remain With the Buffalo Bills?
By Paul Taylor
While nothing is official yet, recent developments seem to indicate Tyrod Taylor will be back with the Buffalo Bills next season.
If you wanted a definition of polarizing, you could do worse than ask what the Buffalo Bills should do with Tyrod Taylor? Certainly, there are few sporting debates in Western New York, which elicit such contrasting viewpoints (and emotions).
The Bills have to make a decision regarding Taylor, before March 11th. They can either release him, exercise his option, not exercise his option but keep him on the roster (least likely scenario) or renegotiate his contract.
However, even with time still remaining, it seems the Bills have already decided they will retain the 2015 Pro Bowler. At least that’s the case, if you believe this tweet by Terrence A. McKelvey (since deleted), which read: “Guess who’s staying with Buffalo!”

For context, McKelvey is a family and pro athlete fiduciary investment advisor. The Bills recently hired him, to do a presentation for the players, hence why he was in a position to pose for a photo with Taylor.
Understandably, this leads to the question of what the 2011 sixth round draft pick told McKelvey? Regardless of what information was or wasn’t shared, it is understandable why the tweet was subsequently deleted.
In truth, this probably goes towards confirming what a couple of respected NFL media members have recently speculated. MMQB’s Albert Breer got the sense new offensive coordinator Rick Dennison wants to keep Taylor, while NFL.com’s Ian Rapport saw the quarterback rehabbing at the Bills’ facility as a positive sign.
Assuming this is the destined course of action, it will be interesting to see if the Bills have persuaded the 27-year old to negotiate his contract. If not, his salary will count for $15.913 million against the cap next season.
As per the polarizing nature of this subject, those in support of Taylor argue that he is the best dual-threat at the quarterback position in franchise history. He has over 3,000 yards passing and 500 yards rushing in both seasons as a starter, and doesn’t throw many picks.
However, on the flip side, critics will point to the Hampton, Virginia native’s struggles to read defenses. He misses open receivers and is accused of being too quick to scramble.
In many respects, the Bills are damned if they do and damned if they don’t, when it comes to Taylor. Regardless, you can guarantee the debate will rage on.
