Toronto Maple Leafs Send Frank Corrado to Marlies for Conditioning Stint
It might not be with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but Frank Corrado is finally going to play in a game, as the team has sent him to the AHL for a conditioning stint.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are finally going to give defenceman Frank Corrado some playing time. Well, kind of. On Monday the team assigned Corrado to the Toronto Marlies for a conditioning stint and also returned centre Byron Froese to the AHL.
This conditioning stint has been long overdue for Corrado, but Mike Babcock cited timing as the main reason why the Leafs have waited to send him to the AHL.

“We could have sent him earlier,” said Babcock, via TSN’s Kristen Shilton. “I wanted him to be a part of the Centennial Classic — whether he got to play in it or not, just be part. We talked to him awhile back and said this is how it would work out. Ideally we’ll stay healthy and he’ll get to play the whole swath of games available to him. That gives him a better chance of an opportunity to jump in.”
The Marlies have seven games between now and January 14th, meaning, unless the Leafs need to recall Corrado because of an injury, he should see plenty of playing time. In seven games with Marlies last year, he registered three assists and no goals.
Matthews Named NHL’s First Star of the Week
In other Toronto Maple Leafs news, Auston Matthews was named the NHL’s first star of the week.
Matthews was the first rookie to reach 20 goals this season after he potted a pair on Sunday during the Centennial Classic. He also surpassed Patrik Laine in the rookie scoring race and now sits with 32 points.
