Everyone recognizes your Kyle Lowry‘s and DeMar DeRozan‘s, but our Three Stars of the Game offers a chance for other players on the Toronto Raptors (and other teams) to shine through.

I’m not the biggest hockey fan (in fact it’s tied for last for me), but I live in Canada so I’ve have seen my fair share of hockey games. After every game there’s a ceremony to honor the three stars of the game, for players who had exceptional individual performances, regardless of the team.

Truly one of the greatest systems implemented to recognize individual achievement on a nightly basis is the three stars system. It has no criteria.

As such, your four-goal scorer, three-assist play maker and 40-save, shutout goaltender are all judged on the same scale. A player with 50 points could be a Star of the Game, as well as someone with five blocks.

Basketball is a star-driven sport, fans debate the arbitrary difference between stars and superstars every day. The All-Star game is a way to determine who stars are, but past the starters, it’s a popularity contest.

There is no game-by-game measurement to show us who the real stars are in the NBA, until now. Let’s count down our first Three Stars of the Game, from the Raptors home opener against the Detroit Pistons.
