1) Bruce Smith: Career sack total (171)

As the first overall draft pick in 1985, big things were expected of Smith. However, even the Bills front office couldn’t have anticipated exactly how much of an impact he was going to have.

More from Buffalo Bills

Simply put, the Norfolk, Virginia native achieved pretty much everything a player could ever want in a football career, save for a Super Bowl ring. He was the cornerstone of the Bills defense during the franchise’s most successful period.

Further, Smith takes his place alongside the likes of Reggie White,Lawrence Taylor and Deacon Jones when it comes to discussing the top pass rushers of all time. Anyone who wants to make an argument for Smith as the best, need only point to his standing as the NFL career record holder for sacks, with 200.

However, it’s the 1985 first overall draft pick’s time with the Bills we’re most interested in. And in particular, his sack total of 171, which he recorded during his 15-year reign of terror in Western New York.

There are various reasons why the mark is unlikely to be topped – Smith’s superior skill set, his loyalty to the organization, the talent around him and so on. Overall, as far as we’re concerned, number 78’s sack total is the Bills’ record least likely to ever be beaten.
