5. Dion Phaneuf

NHL.com actually has Dion Phaneuf ranked higher than Nazem Kadri at 145th overall but I have him ranked below Kadri because Phaneuf will have a new defence partner which he will have to adjust to. He will still play on the top powerplay unit with Cody Franson unless Franson is traded before the start of the regular season.

If you are hoping that Dion can get 15-20 goals like he did in Calgary I think those days are behind him but he could get 10-12 goals if he hits the net more often (and avoid breaking Lupul again). If your league counts +/-, Phaneuf had his his first + season last season with the Leafs. He gets PIM and hits, hopefully playing on the left side will also help him defensively and having a partner like Gardiner who can get him the puck will help him offensively. I would be comfortable projecting Phaneuf to get 12 goals and 40+ points if his work load is easier this season.
